As a result of COVID-19, many in-person health education classes have transitioned to online formats. In Santa Barbara, Sansum Diabetes Research Institute as well as other organizations offer valuable bilingual and virtual opportunities for Latinos with diabetes. Santa Barbara City College offers a 16-week course called “Vidas Sanas” through the Physical Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) Departments. This interactive course follows the “Prevent Type 2 Diabetes” curriculum from the Centers for Disease Control, and highlights topics such as physical education, healthy eating, and weight loss strategies.
