New results from a study of almost 9,000 volunteers show that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom is 90% effective when a person is given a half dose of the vaccine, followed by a full dose one month later. The vaccine was 62% effective when given as two standard doses one month apart. No one who got the vaccine was admitted to the hospital or developed severe COVID-19. AstraZeneca, which makes the vaccine, said that 4 million full doses will be available to vaccinate 8 million people in the United Kingdom by the end of 2020. Around the world, AstraZeneca said that more than 300 million full doses will be available by the end of March 2021. This vaccine can be stored at normal refrigerator temperature. AstraZeneca want their vaccine to be accessible worldwide, not only in richer countries, so the price of the vaccine should be low.
