Where is COVID-19 spread the most? Researchers studied cell phone data from 1 in 3 Americans between March and May of 2020 to identify indoor public places with the most COVID-19 spread. These places include restaurants, gyms, cafes, hotels, and houses of worship. Researchers also found that people in lower-income neighborhoods usually shopped at smaller, more crowded grocery stores and spent more time shopping inside the store, which increased the risk of spreading COVID-19. Further, this study shows higher risk for COVID-19 among people of color because they are less able to work remotely than higher-income white people, and because they tend to visit stores and other places that are more crowded than those in neighborhoods where more white people live.
