A negative effect from the COVID-19 pandemic is that many patients with serious medical conditions are not visiting their doctors because of fear of catching the virus. In a recent survey, The World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted the effect on diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. High blood pressure treatment has been disrupted in 53% of the countries, diabetes treatment in 49%, cancer treatment in 42%, and emergency responses related to heart health in 31% of countries. The WHO found that many people who need treatment for diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes have not been receiving the health services and medicines they need since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
