Hispanics/Latinos are the largest ethnic/racial group in the U.S., and have one of the highest rates of diabetes. Hispanic/Latinos also develop diabetes at a relatively young age compared to other groups. New research suggests that having diabetes over a number of years is also associated with cognitive (brain function) decline among Hispanics/Latinos. This research emphasizes the importance of diabetes prevention and early detection to improve glucose control among Hispanics/Latinos and reduce the risk of diabetes affecting the brain.
