Experience from Italy highlights that person-to-person transmission among individuals living in the same home is one of the drivers of their country’s COVID-19 epidemic. For many communities, isolating a sick family member at home can be very difficult, especially for “tight-knit” families. Interventions, including social distancing and home isolation, must be considered in the context of social and cultural norms and other factors including economics. This is not an easy challenge to fix.
